Our Twikatane Community Health Evangelists/Educators (CHEs) have started a feeding program for children that are undernourished. It is a way for them to reach out and help their community. We have started with 20 children and will continue to expand as the need arises. We are making porridge over burning coals with corn meal, ground nuts and Moringa tree powder. This has a very high nutritional value and we are anxious to see the results over time. The feeding program is not only a way to help nourish children, but also a way to share with the parents about Jesus Christ, good health practices and prevention of diseases. While the porridge is cooking, we have plenty of time to share.
I’m reminded of the story in John 21 where Jesus asked his disciples to come and have breakfast with Him. He was even cooking the fish and bread over burning coals. John 21:15 says,“When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord, “ he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” We have found a few little lambs we can feed with both food and food for thought. I pray that God will continue to give each of us opportunities to make Him real to the world around us today.
